What Does a Verified Business Listing Mean?

OCDIR distinguishes unclaimed editorial business listings from profiles whose ownership has been reviewed. An ownership-verified label reflects a completed ownership review for controlling an OCDIR profile, not independent certification, endorsement, licensing, service quality, or a guarantee that every fact is current.

Editorial and Ownership-Verified Listings

What is an editorial business listing?
An editorial listing contains information obtained from public or owner-provided sources. It is not claimed by the company and does not imply endorsement.
What does ownership verified mean?
The ownership-verified label is reserved for a completed ownership review. It does not mean the company is independently certified, licensed, or recommended.
Is a newly submitted business automatically verified?
No. Valid new business submissions can publish automatically, but publication is separate from ownership verification. A new advertiser does not need ownership verification just to submit a listing or purchase an optional paid plan.

How Existing Business Owners Claim Profiles

How do I claim an existing OCDIR business listing?
Open the existing business profile and use its Claim This Business link. Ownership claims require independent review and are not automatically accepted. If you cannot access the claim process, use the OCDIR Contact page and provide the profile URL.
Does paying for the Featured Business Plan grant editing permission?
No. Buying the $29 USD/month plan is separate from claiming and verifying control of an existing business profile. Existing editing and billing controls remain protected regardless of advertising purchase.

Reviews, Corrections and Important Limits

Does OCDIR continue reviewing listing information?
Information can change. Research source dates and editorial status help administrators schedule corrections and periodic re-verification. A published listing may therefore need factual updates after its initial submission.
What should I do if a verification label or business fact is wrong?
Use the OCDIR Corrections or Contact page. Provide the exact listing URL, a description of the problem, and the requested correction. Do not share sensitive private documents in a public message.
Should customers rely on a verified label as an endorsement?
No. Ownership verification addresses control of the directory profile only. Check professional qualifications, business licenses when relevant, pricing, hours and availability directly with the company.
