What is OCDIR, and who can use it?
OCDIR is an Orange County business directory for people discovering local shops, services, and companies. Browse by city or category, or search for a business name or service. Open a company profile to read about its work and find the available website and contact details. The directory serves residents, visitors, business owners, and organizations looking for local providers.
Which Orange County cities does OCDIR cover?
OCDIR covers all 34 incorporated cities in Orange County, California. You can browse individual city pages or search across the county by business category. Businesses should select the city that accurately represents their location or local presence and describe their service area honestly. A city selection is not a claim that a company has an office in every area it serves.
Can a business based outside Orange County be listed?
Yes, when it has a genuine service presence in Orange County. Use accurate location and service-area information; do not claim a local office that does not exist. The directory is focused on businesses relevant to Orange County customers, so a general website with no meaningful connection to the area is not an appropriate listing.

Free Business Listings

Is a basic business listing really free?
Yes. You can submit a basic business listing without buying a subscription. Complete the required information and submit the form; a valid listing publishes automatically. The optional $29/month plan is a separate paid listing refresh. Choosing a free listing does not require you to enter card details or subscribe later.
Do listings need manual approval or business verification?
No. Valid free and paid listing submissions publish automatically, without manual administrator approval or business verification. Required information, duplicate checks, spam protection, and payment security remain in place. A form that fails validation must be corrected before it can be successfully submitted. Purchasing advertising does not award an ownership-verified badge or grant permission to edit someone else’s existing profile.
What information do I need to submit a listing?
Complete the required fields shown on the submission form, including an About your business description of at least 300 characters. Explain what the company does, who it helps, and useful details that distinguish its work. The separate Orange County presence and services and specialties fields are optional, as is the company logo. All other required fields and validation rules remain in effect. The live description counter helps you see when you have reached the minimum.
Can I upload my company logo?
Yes. The business submission form includes an optional logo upload for JPG, PNG, and WebP images. Use a clear image you are authorized to publish, and follow the upload limits shown on the form. Uploaded logos appear on the public business profile. Owners with customization access can also change the logo, add a cover image, and upload gallery photos from their page editor.
Will my listing automatically appear in the sitemap?
Public, indexable listings are included in OCDIR’s database-driven XML sitemap automatically. New publications, listing updates, and removals are reflected without manual sitemap regeneration. You do not need to resubmit the sitemap each time you edit a business. Search engines control their own crawling and indexing schedules, so sitemap inclusion is not a guarantee that a page will immediately appear in search results.

Manage, Update & Verify Listings

How can I edit or customize an existing business page?
Use the profile’s ownership claim process if you do not already have authorized editing access. Verified owners can open Customize your page to edit business information and appearance. Available options include a logo, cover image, gallery, brand color, professional layouts, and section order. This ownership protection is separate from creating a new listing or purchasing an ad, neither of which requires business verification.
Can I preview changes before publishing them?
Yes. The profile customization editor lets authorized owners save a draft and view a private preview before publishing. Review the text, images, layout, and contact details, then publish when ready. Required fields and validation still apply to edits. Saving a draft alone does not replace the live profile, so visitors continue to see the current published version until you publish the changes.
How do I report incorrect information or request a removal?
Use the contact or corrections page and include the exact business listing URL, the information that needs attention, and the requested correction or removal. Avoid posting private documents or sensitive information in your message. If your business already has a listing, request an update to that profile instead of submitting a duplicate; this preserves its existing URL and information.
Does being listed mean OCDIR endorses or verifies a business?
No. Directory publication and paid advertising are not endorsements, professional certifications, or independent verification of a company’s claims. An ownership-verified label indicates control of a profile, not a recommendation of the company. Contact businesses directly to confirm qualifications, current services, availability, and any other details important to your decision.

Google Search and Indexing Questions

Why isn't my new OCDIR listing showing up in Google?
Publishing a valid OCDIR business listing makes it visible on the directory, but Google independently decides if and when to index public pages. Inclusion in OCDIR's sitemap can help discovery but does not guarantee Google Search placement. Check whether the listing is visible on OCDIR first. For a website you own and have verified, use Google Search Console to inspect the URL.
Can the free Google Search Tester index my business website?
No. OCDIR's free Windows Google Auto Searcher checks whether a target website appears in selected Google search results. It is a research tool, not an indexing service. See SEO Tools for the download, instructions and Google Search Console guidance.
What does Crawled – currently not indexed mean?
Google crawled the URL but chose not to index it yet. It is not automatically a site error. Review whether the page offers unique content, helpful internal links and consistent canonical signals. Google says this status does not require resubmission.
